WooCommerce + WhatsApp integration: 4 ways to connect your store

There are 4 ways to integrate WooCommerce with WhatsApp: a chat button on your store, automated order and cart notifications, your catalog synced to Meta so it shows inside the chat, and an AI agent that answers, recommends and closes the sale for you. The first three bring the customer closer to the conversation; only the last one sells while you are away. This guide walks through each option and how to choose.

Why connect your WooCommerce store to WhatsApp?

WooCommerce is the most used ecommerce platform in the world: over 4.5 million active stores, roughly 1 in 3 online stores, according to Store Leads. But WooCommerce was born as a classic web store: the customer browses alone and, when a question comes up, leaves. In markets like Latin America that question almost always ends up on WhatsApp, where around 7 in 10 shoppers prefer to message a store before paying.

  • WhatsApp messages reach an open rate of roughly 98%, far above email.
  • In the region, 7 or 8 out of every 10 carts are abandoned before checkout.
  • A WhatsApp reminder recovers between 15% and 35% of those carts; email recovers 3% to 10%.

The 4 ways to connect WooCommerce to WhatsApp, from least to most automation.

Option 1: a WhatsApp button on your store (15 minutes)

  1. 1In your WordPress dashboard, install a WhatsApp button plugin (Joinchat and Click to Chat are the most used in the official repository).
  2. 2Set your number in international format.
  3. 3Write the pre-filled message, for example: "Hi, I saw [product] on your store and have a question".
  4. 4Set business hours so you do not collect 3 a.m. chats nobody will answer.

The obvious limitation: the button only opens the conversation. Replying, quoting, charging and following up is still your job, message by message. Ten chats a day is manageable; a hundred is not.

Option 2: automated notifications and cart recovery

The second level uses the official WhatsApp Business API so your store sends messages on its own: order confirmations, shipping status and, the most valuable one, the abandoned-cart reminder. You need an official API provider and Meta-approved message templates. One hard-earned tip: do not blast bulk messages without watching quality, because WhatsApp blocks numbers that get reported. We wrote a full guide to avoiding WhatsApp Business bans with Meta’s documented limits.

The limitation: notifications are one-way. When the customer replies "do you have it in size M?", the message waits until someone on your team sees it.

Option 3: your WooCommerce catalog inside WhatsApp

Meta has a free official plugin, Facebook for WooCommerce, that syncs your products to Commerce Manager. That catalog connects to your WhatsApp Business account so customers can browse products, prices and photos without leaving the chat. The limitation: a catalog displays, it does not sell. Nobody answers the sizing question, suggests the matching product or charges. The salesperson is still missing.

Option 4: an AI agent that sells on WhatsApp

The last level is not showing your store in the chat, it is putting a salesperson in the chat. An AI agent for WhatsApp knows your catalog, understands what the customer wants even in slang or voice notes, recommends specific products, handles objections, sends the payment link and recovers carts, around the clock.

  1. 1Import your catalog: WooCommerce exports products to CSV in two clicks (Products → Export) and you upload it to yavendió! with prices, photos and stock.
  2. 2Connect your WhatsApp and Instagram: the official API connection happens during onboarding, no technical paperwork on your side.
  3. 3The agent handles every chat: answers questions, asks for the right variant (size, color) and recommends from the catalog.
  4. 4It charges inside the conversation with a payment link and logs the sale in your dashboard.
  5. 5If you need to sync orders into your own system, the yavendió! REST API exposes real-time webhooks for closed sales.

To be transparent: native store sync exists today for Shopify; a WooCommerce store connects by importing its catalog and, for deeper needs, through the API. You can see every available connection on the integrations page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the official WhatsApp Business API to integrate WooCommerce?

Not for the chat button: your regular WhatsApp works. For automated notifications, the catalog and AI agents you do, because messages go out programmatically. With yavendió! the API connection happens during onboarding.

Does yavendió! have a WooCommerce plugin?

There is no plugin in the WordPress repository. You connect by importing your catalog (WooCommerce exports it to CSV in two clicks) and, for deeper syncs, through the REST API. If your store runs on WooCommerce, tell our team: it helps us prioritize the native integration.

Does the agent handle variants like size and color?

Yes. The agent understands catalog variants and asks the customer which one they prefer before closing the order.

How much does it cost to connect WhatsApp to WooCommerce?

The button is free. The official API charges per conversation depending on the country, and the AI agent has a free plan so you can try it with real customers before paying.

You can estimate API costs with the WhatsApp cost calculator. And if what you want is someone selling for you inside the chat, create your AI agent with yavendió! on the free plan and test it with your own catalog.
